Burleigh Heads National Park

View to Surfers Paradise

Burleigh Heads is situated between Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise, home of the famous "Burleigh Barrel" and major international surfboard competitions. The foreshore at Burleigh Heads has some great picnic areas with barbecue facilities and playgrounds.

The area is best known for its gently curving protected beach bordered by National Park in the south and offering magical views to Surfers Paradise in the north. The local Kombumerri people knew Burleigh Heads as Jellurgal and the area held significance as a sacred place and was used for fishing, corroborees and other gatherings.

Bush trails lead up through Pandanus Palms into a beautiful coastal rainforest remnant curving around ro Tallebudgera Creek on the southern side of the Burleigh headland. The National Park covers around 25 hectares and is the coastal extreme of an ancient volcano that was active over 22 million years ago.
