There are also a number of charter operations on the Gold Coast offering everything from saltwater and estuary fishing tours to deep sea blue water sport and game fishing trips. Fish caught on these organised fishing trips include Snapper, Cobia, Kingfish, Amberjack, Sharks, Mackerel, Tuna, Sailfish and, Marlin. Freshwater Fishing
Fishing permits are required when fishing at the Dam and cost around $5 for a week long permit or $40 for a year. Permits are available from Gold Coast City Council offices and Hinze Dam Rangers. At Albert Valley, around 40 minutes drive from the Gold Coast there is a recreational fishing park that has a dozen large ponds stocked with thousands of Australian native fish including Australian bass, golden perch, silver perch, saratoga, barcoo grunter, barramundi, sooty grunter, Murray cod and eel-tailed catfish. It is important that you consult the local tackle shop if you are unsure of the recreational fishing regulations that apply in Queensland as there are serious penalties for infringements.
